So You Think You're Ready to Query
So You Think You're Ready to Query
Writing is hard, but landing an agent can be even harder. After spending years on a manuscript, facing the daunting new challenge of querying for an agent or publisher can feel like an insurmountable obstacle.
While there are scores of resources available to help writers craft query letters, find agents, and tackle the dreaded synopsis, determining when to start the process is often the biggest stumbling block.
One of the most common mistakes a writer can make is to query too soon, failing to engage agents who might have jumped at a more polished draft. Rushing the query process can also keep a writer from success—sending out all the queries at one time is a bad idea! Still, it’s never too soon to start thinking about querying and investigating that aspect of a writer’s life.
